He led Australia to victory in the 2003 World Cup
when the side won all 11 matches that it played in the tournament. He
is also named Player of the Series in Australia's 3-1 Test win in the
West Indies in early 2003 after scoring 523 runs at an average of 130.75
including three hundreds and his maiden double hundred, 206 at Port of
Spain. He has topped Australia's averages in the 1999/2000 Ansett
Australia series against India with 375 runs in three Tests at 125.00
with two hundreds. Ricky Ponting has made an unbeaten 140 against India
to lead Australia to a 125-run win in the final of the 2003 World Cup.
